Nancy Pelosi Hints This May be Her Final Term as House Speaker

It seems Nancy Pelosi has signaled this may be her last term in Congress as House Speaker. Pelosi has been considered to be a prominent democratic figure for the better part of two decades and has never faced a serious challenge for her leadership role in all that time. She was also just tapped to run for a seventh and eighth year as House Speaker. However, during a series of vague statements from Pelosi at a news conference yesterday, she appeared to suggest this may be the beginning of the end for her. Pelosi said while strict term limits haven’t been legally placed on the leadership role, she would still abide by them as if they were. Her exit is expected to leave a massive leadership vacuum for Democrats. While her top deputies currently include Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland and Majority Whip Jim Clyburn of South Carolina, the two are relatively older. It’s likely the broader caucus will look to fill the spot with younger leaders.
