Potential New Vaccine Shows Promise as U.S. Hits 11 Million Covid-19 Cases
As the U.S. hit 11 million Covid-19 cases over the weekend, a second potential vaccine has been announced. It only took six days to hit this new milestone as the daily count has been averaging at about 150,000 people. This was also the 11th consecutive day cases surpassed 100,000. As the third wave of the virus continues its uncontrolled spread, more states are cracking down. Illinois and Washington state have closed indoor dining and gyms for at least a month. In-store retail capacity has also been significantly reduced. Chicago and parts of New York are now under stay at home advisories. Michigan has also ordered partial shutdowns of venues like restaurants, bars and schools for at least 3 weeks. But breaking this morning was news of hope as Moderna revealed early results of their vaccine showed a 94.5% efficacy rate with no significant safety concerns. This is now the second drugmaker to reveal a promising vaccine after Pfizer last week. But unlike Pfizer, this vaccine will be easier to ship and distribute. Experts believe they could receive FDA Emergency Use Approval by December.
