At Least Four Dead, Two Missing After Storm Eta Travels Through North Carolina

Tropical Storm Eta caused deaths and widespread damage as it made its way across North Carolina yesterday. Three people were killed and two are still missing, including a baby, after heavy rains caused severe flooding and overtook an entire campground in Alexander County. Authorities were initially searching for five people, but they later determined three of them were deceased. The causes remain unclear at this time. Currently, there is one adult and a one-year-old child who are still presumed missing. Fortunately, 31 other people have been successfully rescued so far. As emergency personnel continue the search, they’re running into issues that include being unable to open campers because the water is so high. The major flooding also caused significant damage to other parts of the state. Approximately 50 roads across the county have been compromised, with four bridges washed out. A fourth person was killed during a car crash due to the high waters and a bridge outage. The dangerous flooding and subsequent poor road conditions will remain to be an issue for at least a few more days.
