Supreme Court Hears First Arguments on Affordable Care Act

The Supreme Court finally heard arguments on the Affordable Care Act yesterday. The Trump Administration has been attempting to strike down the landmark health reform law ever since they came into power. So far their efforts have failed in lesser courts. but by bringing the issue before the high court they hope to be successful and follow it with a health care plan of their own which has yet to be released. While the justices were in session, President-elect Biden gave an impassioned speech, bashing the Trump Administration for trying to push this through while in the midst of the pandemic. Fortunately for him, it appears at least two of the conservative justices on the court made arguments in favor of keeping the Act, or at least the majority of it. However, this did not include newly named Justice Amy Coney Barrett. She has been critical of the ACA in the past, but appeared to remain impartial during the entirety of yesterday’s hearings. This has led some to believe there’s hope Obamacare could survive even with a conservative leaning court. They’re expected to issue their ruling in the spring.
