NC State Highway Patrol Helicopter Crashes into Middle of Road
A North Carolina State Highway Patrol helicopter crashed onto a highway yesterday afternoon. The incident occurred on Tryon Road, near the Highway Patrol Training Academy around 2 p.m. The helicopter was returning to the patrol’s hangar facility during a training mission when it went down and hit several trees, before landing upright in the road. Fortunately no one was injured. The National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration and the patrol’s Reconstruction Unit are now investigating. This is reportedly the second Highway Patrol crash to occur in the area in the past two years.
