Joe Biden Named Next President-Elect in Historic Nomination
Over the weekend, Joe Biden was named the next President-elect and Kamala Harris the next Vice President-elect.
The call was made Saturday morning by several news media outlets after confirming Pennsylvania was projected to flip blue, solidifying their victory. This is a historic win in many ways. For one, Biden will become the oldest president the U.S. has ever had. His vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris will also break numerous glass ceilings. She’s the first woman, the first black person, the first South Asian person and the first child of immigrants to be named into the position. Biden and Harris gave their victory speech late Saturday night promising to unify the U.S. and represent everyone, even those who did not vote for them. However, this task will not be easy. President-elect Biden will have to hit the ground running as he comes into the presidency facing unprecedented odds. He will inherit a severely divided nation and Congress, a growing environmental crisis, and a global pandemic which has battered the economy with more than 10 million still unemployed.
