Minimal Disturbances From Protesters Reported During Election Night

While votes were being tallied last night, protests broke out across the country as anticipated. In Washington, D.C., Black Lives Matter protesters flooded the streets near the White House. Many businesses and other buildings had already boarded up their windows and doors in preparation and fortunately, there was no widespread destruction or arrests reported. Large, peaceful protests attended by thousands were further seen in cities like Portland and New York. However, not every city was the same. In LA, at least 40 people were arrested for unlawful assembly after blocking train tracks and intersections. Seattle also saw at least 8 arrests. The charges included pedestrian interference, obstruction, assault on an officer, reckless driving and criminal mischief. It’s believed demonstrators left nails in roadways and one person even damaged a parking meter with a hammer. Minneapolis also witnessed a few disturbances, with more than a dozen people arrested for setting off fireworks, spray painting businesses and throwing debris and traffic signs into the road.
