Record Over 100 Million People Voted Early This Year

Over 100 million people have voted so far, with tens of millions more expected to cast their ballots today. The votes already cast represent more than 45% of registered voters nationwide and 70% of all votes cast during 2016. Eighteen states, plus Washington, D.C., have also seen more than half of their registered voters cast ballots so far. But it could still be days before we see a clear winner as states deal with an influx of mail-in ballots. While Biden is pushing for more time to count every vote before a victor is declared, President Trump believes we should know the results as soon as possible. The last time a race was this contested was in 2000 when the Supreme Court ruled on the results. There are concerns we may have to depend on the Supreme Court again this year. Both campaigns have recently come out saying they have their lawyers on standby, ready to “protect the integrity of the election” should it come to that.
