Walmart Temporarily Removes Firearms, Related Products From Shelves

Amid that civil unrest in Philadelphia, Walmart has removed all its guns and related products from shelves. While there have been peaceful demonstrations in the city following the death of Walter Wallace Jr., there has also been violence. A Walmart spokesperson said due to the growing number of volatile incidents witnessed over the last few months, coupled with the upcoming election, they’ll be removing the products from sales floors. It’s meant to be a “precaution for the safety of their associates and customers.” Walmart has temporarily removed firearms and other related products from their shelves in the past, including during the weeks following the death of George Floyd. However, they will still be available for purchase upon customer request. Firearm sales tend to increase during stressful events and elections and they have soared this year in particular. This includes first time buyers who have accounted for nearly 40% of sales so far.
