Zeta Upgraded to Hurricane as Gulf Coast Once Again Braces for Storm
Tropical storm Zeta has been upgraded to a category one hurricane. The 27th named storm of the season is once again taking aim at the Gulf Coast, with New Orleans in its sights. That part of the U.S. has been relentlessly hounded by storms this hurricane season. It’ll make landfall today and will break the record for most named storms to hit the U.S. mainland in one year at number 11. Unlike Marco, Laura, and Delta, Zeta is expected to be fast-moving and relatively weak with winds of only 60-70 mph. But even then, that’s still strong enough to down power lines and trees. Torrential rain with a storm surge of as much as 8 feet can also be anticipated. Hurricane warnings are in effect for parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said, “It is important that everyone get their game plan together.”
