USPS Ordered to Make Late, Extra Delivery of Mail-in Ballots a Priority

A federal judge has issued the most aggressive oversight order against the USPS to ensure mail-in ballots are received in a timely fashion. Last week, a lawsuit was brought against the postal service alleging they weren’t in compliance with court orders and that late and extra mail delivery trips were down, despite policy changes being put into place. Judge Emmet Sullivan of the DC District Court has now laid out detailed steps for the postal service that prioritizes mail-in ballots and holds the service accountable. Employees must now be informed that late and extra delivery trips are allowed and the delivery of ballots by state deadlines is important. The new order also allows Sullivan to closely monitor USPS operations by forcing them to provide daily updates. The USPS has declined to comment on the ruling other than to say delivering ballots remains its top priority.
