Judge Amy Coney Barrett Becomes Justice After Sworn into Supreme Court

Last night the Senate voted to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, which was promptly followed by her swearing in ceremony at the White House. Following weeks of bitter arguments and protests, the official vote was 52-48. It was split almost entirely along party lines with the exception of Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine who sided with Democrats. This now marks President Trump’s third Supreme Court pick while serving in office. Barrett is 48-years-old and likely to serve on the court for decades. Her confirmation also means the Supreme Court will now be a conservative majority. This all comes exactly a week before the election. Her appointment could have serious implications for any potential election disputes and the future of the Affordable Care Act which is expected to be voted on sometime next week, as well. Around 23 million people can be expected to lose their coverage, and during a pandemic, if it’s shot down.
