California Wildfire Leaves Two Firefighters Seriously Injured, Tens of Thousands Displaced

Two California firefighters were gravely injured yesterday as wildfires on the west coast have continued to rage for months. Approximately 60,000 people were forced to evacuate after the Silverado Fire in Orange County escalated due to the Santa Ana winds. It’s unclear exactly how, but while battling that blaze, a 26 and 31-year-old firefighter sustained severe second and third-degree burns over half their bodies. They’re currently on ventilators at a local hospital. The Silverado Fire has still not been contained, its just one of dozens of fires that are currently burning across the state. At least 5 million acres across the west coast have been lost. Fortunately, Colorado is experiencing a bit of a reprieve from their fires after receiving several inches of snow. They also had numerous fires with severe smoke that forced tens of thousands to evacuate. Firefighters were hoping the recent bout of cold weather would stave off the fires through the rest of the season. Unfortunately for them, temperatures are expected to warm back up starting today.
