Trump Administration Turns Focus From Containing Coronavirus to Developing Vaccine
As the U.S. battles the alarming rise in new Covid-19 cases, the race for a vaccine continues. Despite the record-breaking numbers the country has been recording and the fact that the U.S. is leading the globe with most cases and most deaths, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows said yesterday they’re not going to “control” the pandemic. He added while they’re making some efforts, it’s still “a contagious virus just like the flu.” Instead of enforcing CDC recommendations, they’re instead turning their focus towards the development of vaccines, therapeutics, treatments and other mitigation areas “to make sure that people don’t die from this.” President Trump continues to promise a vaccine is weeks away, but Dr. Anthony Fauci is still contradicting his statements, saying experts won’t know until December when a safe and effective vaccine will be ready. Even then, widespread availability probably won’t become a reality until well into 2021. In that time, the CDC predicts another 200,000 lives could be lost.
