We’re Now in the Third Wave of Covid-19, Health Experts Say

Yesterday, the U.S. reported over 60,000 new coronavirus cases, almost tripling the daily average in June. Health experts say we are now in the midst of the third wave, as was predicted months ago, and many say it’s going to get worse. The national seven-day case average has increased at least 18% within the last week and has risen a staggering 61% from a month ago. Hospitalization rates are up in 42 states with at least 45 states reporting alarming increases. According to data obtained from Johns Hopkins University, no state is trending in the right direction. Within two weeks, leading health care experts are predicting cases could surpass 70,000 a day or more. While some states are beginning to re-implement Covid-19 restrictions, it might not be enough. Many Americans are beginning to experience what’s called ‘Covid fatigue’ or burnout which leads to a lack of safety precautions such as mask wearing and social distancing. Not to mention holidays are fast approaching and many people intend to gather with friends and family, despite warnings.
