Pelosi Hopes to Reach Stimulus Deal With Mnuchin By Tomorrow

A 48-hour deadline has been set by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin to reach a stimulus agreement. She hopes to cut a deal by tomorrow in order to have the bill approved by both the House and the Senate before November 3rd. Pelosi said the 48-hour deadline is imperative if they want to pass the relief before the election. This is despite President Trump’s previous threats to withhold funding until after that date. Pelosi believes more details can be ironed out upon approval, but that not every key issue can be included. Talks over things such as contact tracing remain to be in complete stalemates. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will hold a vote on more stimulus measures these next few days, including a stand-alone Paycheck Protection Program bill for small businesses. But Democrats can be expected to block these efforts in hopes of pushing the larger deal. Pelosi and Mnuchin will meet today to continue negotiations. U.S. economists predict if an agreement is not reached soon, the ending result could be disastrous.
