Amy Coney Barrett Faces Grueling Line of Questions in Second Day of Confirmation Hearings

The Supreme Court confirmation hearings of Amy Coney Barrett kicked off yesterday with impassioned opening statements. The entire Judiciary Committee was able to speak, including some virtually, and many made it clear their minds are already made. But there are still those who are undecided and these next few days will prove to be extremely crucial. Democrats focused on mainly matters of health care and women’s rights, specifically by appealing to people’s sense of empathy. At least one committee member also directly asked Barrett to recuse herself amid the extremely controversial move being made to push the Supreme Court vote through just days before the election. In turn, most Republicans made it clear they think Barrett is extremely qualified for the job and intend to go into depth on her record to prove it. They’ve also argued their counterparts have no real case and their attacks over her fitness to serve because of her faith are unconstitutional. The second day of hearings kicked off this morning at 9 a.m. and it’s expected to be the first in a series of long days full of grueling interrogations for Barrett.
