More Than Half of All U.S. States Report Concerning Increases of New Covid-19 Cases
The U.S. is once again reporting record high Covid-19 numbers not seen since August. 31 states are seeing increased trends in new cases with at least five states reporting spikes by more than 50% in a single week. Those states include Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, Tennessee and Vermont. In total, the country is seeing on average over 50,000 reported cases a day, with Friday documenting over 57,000. Only three states, Maine, Texas and Washington, are seeing average weekly declines. In total, the U.S. has over 7.7 million cases and almost 215,000 deaths on record. The CDC is now saying an additional 20,000 coronavirus-related deaths are all but “inevitable” by the end of this month. Further disturbing news from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington School of Medicine projects the U.S. will experience 400,000 fatalities by February. This includes a peak in mid-January with about 2,300 deaths daily.
