Hurricane Delta Turns Deadly, Destructive After Making Landfall in Louisiana
At least one person is dead after Hurricane Delta made landfall in Louisiana. Governor John Bel Edwards confirmed the victim was an 86-year-old man who died while refueling a generator that hadn’t properly cooled down and caught fire as a result. He’s now reminding residents to proceed with caution when tending to their generators as nearly 350,000 people are still without power. This is a significant drop from the almost 700,000 reported earlier this weekend across multiple states. Two more people were injured in Georgia after the storm brought tornadoes, which are now also threatening the Carolinas. Delta was the second major hurricane in two months to slam into the Gulf Coast and the 10th Atlantic Basin storm to hit the U.S. Delta made landfall Friday evening as a Category 2 with sustained winds of 100 miles per hour. It also brought a storm surge of several feet and severe flooding. It’s forced thousands to have to evacuate their homes.
