Big Tech Accused of Abusing Monopoly Power Following Congressional Investigation
A 16-month long congressional investigation has determined Big Tech giants abused their dominance by wielding “monopoly power”. The 450-page report was made public following the review of more than one million official documents and countless interviews. It detailed “significant evidence” proving Amazon, Apple, Google and Facebook have collectively “hindered innovation, reduced consumer choice and weakened democracy.” Staffers for the House Judiciary Committee’s antitrust panel have now strongly condemned the tech companies actions and hinted future legislation would be brought against them in effort to limit their abilities. This news comes the same day Facebook announced they would begin banning all QAnon related accounts and other content. They’re a conspiracy theory group responsible for making wildly outlandish political claims. Facebook, like the other major companies named in the investigation, has been accused of blatantly allowing for the spread of misinformation on their sites with potentially disastrous outcomes. It’s just another example of their unchecked power that may soon come to an end.
