Covid-19 Outbreak Threatens Nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to Supreme Court

As almost a dozen GOP members have now tested positive for Covid -19, the fate of Amy Coney Barrett’s Supreme Court nomination hangs in the balance. At least two Republican senators who’ve tested positive also serve on the Judiciary Committee. It’s believed they all contracted the virus while attending the Rose Garden nomination ceremony that turned into a super spreader event. Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, who’s also positive, said they’re doing everything they can to pass President Trump’s nominee, going so far as to say he would wear a ‘moon suit’ to get the job done. But they’re running out of time and the odds of doing so are becoming increasingly more unlikely each day. This is especially true after the Senate was forced to close for at least two weeks to prevent further spread. The biggest fear, says Senator Amy Klobuchar, is “We don’t know how many other Republican senators have it.” Attempting to get together in person at this point would be extremely dangerous and it’s being argued that virtual hearings are not sufficient enough for a high priority lifetime appointment such as this.
