Fallen Hero Honored by Local Officers, Other Community Members
Officer Jacob Hancher’s death has already greatly affected the local community. Hancher served for less than a year and was the first MBPD officer to lose their life in the line of duty since 2002. You may have seen tributes to him on your way to work this morning along 17 Bypass in the form of flashing police vehicles and fire trucks. A procession also escorted Officer Hancher’s body to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston this morning. Other community members are also finding ways to honor the fallen hero. A fundraiser conducted by the local non-profit Serve & Connect has already raised over $22,000 for Hancher’s family.
