Suspect Identified, Charged in Connection to Shooting of Two LA Officers

The suspect in the ambush shooting of two LA officers in Compton a few weeks ago has been identified and charged. 36-year-old Deonte Lee Murray approached a patrol vehicle sitting outside a transit station on September 12th and fired point blank through a window. A 31-year-old female and 24-year-old male officer were shot in the face and head but survived their injuries and are expected to make full recoveries. It’s believed Murray was apprehended several days after the shooting for an unrelated car jacking incident and “lengthy standoff” but is only now being identified. Murray faces a multitude of charges including two counts of attempted murder which he plead not guilty to yesterday. If convicted, he faces life in prison. His bail was set at just over $6 million and is due back in court November 17th. While the LA County Sheriff’s Office said they treat everyone under their care “with the same professionalism, regardless of their charges,” Murray’s lawyer said he’s worried about his client’s safety. He claims Murray has been denied food and even threatened.
