President Trump Clarifies Statements Made Regarding White Supremacy During Debate

President Trump is now clarifying statements made during the first presidential debate following severe criticism. The moment being most referenced in particular was when he was asked to denounce white supremacy by both moderator Chris Wallace and former Vice President Joe Biden and he responded by saying, “Proud Boys, stand back and stand by.” It was arguably one of the president’s most controversial statements from the entire evening and was met with extreme reactions. Trump’s campaign immediately reminded the public that he’s “continuously denounced” white supremacists, including twice verbally during the debate. The president further reinforced these claims while speaking with reporters outside the White House yesterday. He said he didn’t know those groups referenced during the debate very well, but asked them to once again stand down to allow for law enforcement to do their jobs. Over 73 million people tuned in to watch this week’s presidential debate that’s been hailed as one of the most disastrous ever witnessed. It was the biggest American television event this year since the 2020 Super Bowl and the second most viewed debate on record, right after the first one in the 2016 election. And while many may still be divided over who they’re voting for, one thing is clear: Americans are extremely unhappy with how this year’s event turned out.
