Delay Requested in Release of Breonna Taylor Grand Jury Transcripts
The grand jury transcripts from the Breonna Taylor investigation are set to be released today. In an almost unprecedented move, a juror who served on the panel filed an official motion earlier this week demanding all recordings be released. They suggested that Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron “misrepresented the case” to the public and laid most the responsibility on the grand jury. They further claimed while prosecutors presented all evidence, they only recommended charges of wanton endangerment solely for former Officer Brett Hankison. The juror’s lawyer said his client just “wants to make sure the truth gets out” and has additionally requested that those who served on the panel be allowed to make their identities public. While the recordings are expected to be released today, the Kentucky Attorney General has asked for a last minute week-long delay. He said they need time to sort through the over 20 hours of recordings and redact “names and personal identifiers of any private citizen” who participated on the grand jury.
