Americans Divided Over Who Won Chaotic First Presidential Debate
CLARIFICATION: FBI Director Chris Wray delivered testimony agreeing with Biden’s claims that antifa (which stands for anti-fascist) is not a terrorist organization, but rather an ideology. However, there are still conflicting reports in regards to what they really are. There are those who consider it a loose affiliation of far-left activists, and still there are others who do consider it an extremist group.
Last night President Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden clashed in one of the most chaotic and embarrassing presidential debates in modern history. That was just some of the pandemonium witnessed last night. Moderator Chris Wallace had an extremely difficult time keeping the candidates both from interrupting each other, hurling insults, and staying on topic. The most controversial moments from the night, however, came when neither candidate was able to completely denounce far leaning, violent extremist organizations. President Trump told the white supremacist group Proud Boys “to stand back and stand by”. Meanwhile, Biden referred to antifa as a “an idea, not an organization” which is not entirely correct. As for who won or who lost? That remains to be decided. Depending on what side of the aisle you’re on, you could say either. Some believe Biden maintained his composure well, given the circumstances. Others argue President Trump had control of the conversation the entire evening. But as news anchor Jake Tapper put it, “that was a hot mess inside a dumpster fire, inside a train wreck,” adding the real losers of the evening were “the American people.”
