California Under Another State of Emergency as Wildfires Continue to Rage Out of Control
Once again, California is under a state of emergency due to the deadly and extremely devastating wildfires. Governor Gavin Newsom made the declaration last night after two blazes in particular have grown out of control in Napa, Sonoma and Shasta counties. The Zogg Fire and Glass Fire that ignited this weekend have already killed three people with at least 21 more hospitalized for burns or respiratory issues. Evacuations of over 70,000 residents have been ordered as flames continue to grow at a “dangerous rate”. The two fires have destroyed nearly 70,000 acres of land. There are also fears the Zogg fire may converge with the August Complex Fire, which has become the largest in California history. Hundreds of structures have been damaged with almost 9,000 more threatened. The hot, dry and windy conditions remain to be unrelenting as 22 large blazes are currently active in the state. They have claimed the lives of 29 people and almost 4 million acres of land since mid-August.
