Judge Amy Coney Barrett Nominated to Supreme Court by President Trump
Over the weekend, President Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. The announcement came just a week after the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. There’s no doubt as to whether or not Barrett is qualified. She’s a Christian conservative federal appellate judge and part-time Notre Dame law professor. She also previously worked for Justice Anton Scalia as a law clerk all the while raising seven children. The problem is how close her nomination comes to the election. It’s reported the majority of Americans want the Senate to hold off on her confirmation until after. However, the GOP has instead decided to fast-track the process. Introductions and hearings will begin October 12th, with hopes to approve her by October 26th which is less than a week before the election. Barrett has promised to uphold the constitution “as it’s written” regardless of her religious views. At 48, she is one of the youngest justices to ever be nominated. If elected, she will become the first to serve while also having school-aged children.
