Ruth Bader Ginsburg Becomes First Woman, Jewish Person to Lie in State at U.S. Capitol

Ruth Bader Ginsburg has now become the first woman and Jewish person to lie in state at the U.S. Capitol. Ginsburg is also the first justice to ever receive two full days of public viewing. Thousands flocked to the Supreme Court building to pay their respects to the late justice as she lie in repose. Many of Ginsburg’s fellow peers and other major political leaders also visited. President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were among those who made appearances yesterday. As they stood in a moment of silence, they were met with boos and loud chants to “vote him out.” Today Ginsburg was transported to the National Statuary Hall where she will lie in state. Since the practice began in 1852, only 38 people have been given this honor, including 12 presidents. Unlike the last few days, today’s formal event will be invite-only due to the pandemic. Ginsburg is expected to be buried sometime next week. The president intends to announce his nomination for her replacement tomorrow evening.
