One Officer Indicted on Charges of Wanton Endangerment in Death of Breonna Taylor

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron has just announced one of three officers involved in the shooting, former Officer Brett Hankison, has been indicted by a grand jury on on three counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree. It’s still unclear if one of the ten shots Hankison fired off struck Taylor. However, it was determined Hankison’s actions endangered the male, pregnant female and child who were in the apartment next door at the time of the incident. It’s reported Taylor’s family is extremely disappointed with the verdict.

The city of Louisville continues to brace itself for the soon to be announced grand jury decision in Breonna Taylor’s death. Ahead of the announcement that will be made this afternoon at 1:30, numerous federal buildings were boarded up and vehicle barricades put in place to restrict access to the downtown area. Louisville Metro Police are under a state of emergency and currently barred from taking days off until further notice. The department said the measures taken are to ensure people can protest peacefully. They said “public safety is our number one priority, and it would be irresponsible if we did not take preemptive action to preserve it.” Six officers are currently under investigation for the part they played in the fatal shooting of the 26-year-old EMT. Only one has been relieved of duty. Yesterday, Sargent Johnathon Mattingly, who’s still with the force and was shot in the leg during the incident, sent an email to their entire department. He defended their actions saying, “We did the legal, moral and ethical thing that night.” He also referred to protesters as “thugs” and condemned the city for demonizing the “good guys”.
