Columbia Police Seek Six People of Interest in Relation to Mental Health Asylum Fire

Six people are wanted for questioning by the Columbia Police Department following a three-alarm fire at a historic building. Fire officials responded to the scene early Saturday morning to find the Dr. James Woods Babcock building, a former mental health asylum, destroyed by flames. The building was currently closed and expected to be converted into a luxury housing development. More than 50 firefighters and 14 trucks worked for over 10 hours to put out the flames. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries after being hit by falling debris and it’s estimated millions of dollars in damage was done. Now Columbia authorities are seeking six people of interest captured on surveillance video around the time the fire broke out. It’s believed they were driving a red pickup truck.
