Senate to Vote on New “Skinny” Covid-19 Stimulus Relief Bill Tomorrow

The Senate is expected to vote on another Covid-19 stimulus relief bill this week and it’s likely to fail. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell unveiled the potential bill yesterday following weeks of negotiations. The new GOP package is being called the “skinny” bill since it will cost considerably less than previous proposals. It will include a $300 federal boost for unemployment benefits through December 27th and relief for small businesses. It also allocates around $105 billion for education and would further forgive a $10 billion loan to the USPS. The bill does not, however, include a second round of stimulus checks or financial aid for cash-strapped states. The vote for the new legislation will take place tomorrow, however it’s not backed by the majority of Democrats and even some Republicans. Government funding runs out in 22 days and if an agreement is not met, there could be a shut down.
