Numerous Record-Breaking Wildfires Continue to Rage in California

In a new state record, over 2 million acres of land have been destroyed as at least 22 wildfires continue to burn in California. One new wildfire over the weekend was sparked in El Dorado after a family set off a pyrotechnic device as part of a gender reveal party. The resulting fire has since claimed over 10,000 acres. Officials said it was “one of the most dangerous” they’ve seen and it remains largely unconstrained. Fortunately, no injuries and no damaged structures have been reported. Other areas in the state have not fared as well. The Creek Fire in the Sierra National Forest has caused massive structural damage and blocked roads and trails. Aerial rescues had to be performed after around 50 people were trapped by the fast-moving fires. Several were injured and at least one death has been reported. High temperatures and winds are expected to continue through tomorrow. Nationwide, over 5 million acres of land have been destroyed by 76 large wildfires.
