Seven Officers Suspended With Pay Over Death of Daniel Prude

Seven officers involved in the apprehension and death of Daniel Prude have been suspended with pay. Prude died back in March. During a mental health episode, he ran outside nude and was yelling he had Covid-19. Responding officers handcuffed and tased him. They also placed a spit hood over his head and further physically restrained him by kneeling on him. He went unconscious and was declared brain dead soon after. His death was determined to be homicide by suffocation with “excited delirium” and acute amounts of PCP listed as contributing factors. Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren said she was initially told by the city’s police chief Prude died of an overdose. After their body cam footage was released to the public, she became enraged and suspended the officers. However, that wasn’t enough for protesters against racial injustice. Violent unrest was again witnessed across the state last night. In Times Square, a car even drove through a crowd of demonstrators. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
