DHS Issues Warning on Possible Russian Interference During Election
The Department of Homeland Security is warning they have reason to believe Russia may interfere with November’s election. Aan official intelligence bulletin said they may try to amplify the public’s doubt over the integrity of this year’s event by reiterating recent false claims about mail-in voting. This includes bribes, counterfeit ballots and other fraudulent means. These are fears that have been frequently voiced by President Trump, Attorney General William Barr and more over the last few months as the country braces itself for a record-breaking number of mail-in ballots due to the pandemic. However, there is no historical proof mail-in voting is more susceptible to fraud, nor does it benefit one party over another. The Democratic Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee responded by saying, this new information only “demonstrates why the cancellation of in-person briefings on election security for Congress is so dangerous. Congress must be able to directly question and engage with the intelligence community professionals with the responsibility for protecting our elections from foreign interference.”
