President Trump Threatens to Withhold Funding From “Lawless” Cities

Meanwhile, President Trump has threatened to cut funding from major democratic-led cities where protests remain ongoing. He claims leaders in specifically New York City, Portland, Seattle and Washington, DC are blatantly allowing for “violence and destruction” to occur. The White House has instructed federal agencies to prepare a deadline of 30 days after which federal grants will be restricted in these “anarchist jurisdictions.” Notably absent from the document was Minneapolis and Kenosha.
The president said “my administration will not allow federal tax dollars to fund cities that allow themselves to deteriorate into lawless zones.” It’s a strong move in his fight to restore “law and order” to the country as he’s promised. But many city leaders were quick to reject his actions, arguing they need the money now more than ever because of the pandemic. Governor Andrew Cuomo was probably the harshest when he said “President Trump has actively been trying to kill New York City ever since he’s been elected.”
