U.S. Will Not Participate in Global Vaccine Development, Distribution Led by WHO

The U.S. will reportedly not participate in the global effort to develop or distribute a Covid-19 vaccine. It’s believed this is because the initiative is led by the World Health Organization which President Trump has been extremely critical of, even going so far as to officially withdraw the U.S. from the WHO. The U.S. will continue to engage with our international partners but don’t want to be constrained by what President Trump considers to be a “corrupt” organization. 170 other countries are currently on board with the WHO’s endeavors to end the pandemic. An independent committee has further recommended a 4-phase plan for when a vaccine becomes available in the U.S. It includes giving the vaccine to first responders, high-risk workers in health care facilities, and older high-risk adults first. This would be followed by critical risk and essential workers. It would then be distributed amongst young adults and children. The final phase would include everyone else.
