Fatal Shooting in Portland Reported Amid Protests Over Racial Injustice
A man was fatally shot in downtown Portland over the weekend as protests continue over racial injustice. Police have declined to release a lot of information on the victim or what led up to the shooting except to confirm he was shot in the chest. They have asked the public not to jump to conclusions since they don’t know if the man was killed as a result of the protests that were ignited following the shooting of 29-year-old Jacob Blake in Wisconsin. Authorities confirmed they have no suspect and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them. Protests and rioting in Portland have continued for almost 100 straight days. Following the fatal shooting over the weekend, Governor Kate Brown announced a new six-point plan she claims will “protect free speech and bring violence and arson to an end in Portland.” Oregon state police are also set to return to the city following weeks-long negotiations to have them and other federal forces removed.
