Athletes Decide to Resume Games Following Strike

Athletes have decided to resume games following their strike over the shooting of Jacob Blake. This comes a day after the Milwaukee Bucks decided not take the court for game 5 of their series. It caused a domino effect within the sports world and led numerous other leagues, such as the WNBA, MLS, and the MLB to do the same in solidarity. The NHL also followed suit by canceling all playoff games scheduled for yesterday. Nine of their teams further canceled practice and instead met to discuss issues of racial injustice. U.S. tennis even paused play at the Western & Southern Open. While most games are expected to resume as early as today, in an official joint statement, the NFL and the NFL Players Association said “we will continue to not only use our collective platform to call out racism and injustice whenever and wherever it occurs in our country, but also fight together to eradicate it.” Most of the other leagues have issued similar sentiments.
