South Carolina Blood Banks Seek Donors for Convalescent Plasma Treatment

South Carolina blood banks are preparing for an increased demand for convalescent plasma. This comes following the FDA’s emergency authorization approving it as a possible treatment for Covid-19. It’s believed the antibodies from recovered patients can help current patients fight off the virus. Some hospitals report their previous stockpiles were nearly depleted following June and July’s spike in cases. In order to anticipate the new demand, blood banks across the state are seeking new donors.
