Third Night of Protests in Wisconsin Over Shooting of Jacob Blake Turns Deadly

The third straight night of protests in Wisconsin over the shooting of Jacob Blake has taken a deadly turn. In defiance of curfew orders, protesters have been seen vandalizing cars, looting, clashing in the streets, throwing projectiles and fireworks at police, and setting buildings on fire in recent days. Police have been forced to use tear gas, armored cars, and pepper balls against them. Then last night, two people were killed and a third is suffering from serious, but non-life threatening injuries following a shooting. Police are still determining the circumstances surrounding the incident and have reportedly taken at least one person into custody. Governor Tony Evers has officially declared a state of emergency and deployed more National Guard members to the city. Blake’s family has also spoken out, condemning the recent destruction going on within the city and calling for peace. Meanwhile, they are filing a civil lawsuit against the Wisconsin Police Department. The lawyer they’ve hired is the same one representing George Floyd’s family. The incident is also being investigated by state, local and federal officials.
