Congressional Hearings Conclude for Postmaster General Louis DeJoy
Yesterday marked the final day of congressional hearings for Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. The 63-year-old was thoroughly grilled over changes he made within the United States Postal Service since his appointment in May. It’s suggested DeJoy purposefully implemented changes that effectively slowed down mail delivery. These changes in turn may impede the 2020 presidential election which is expected to receive a record-breaking number of mail-in ballots. It’s believed DeJoy, who is a supporter of President Trump, did so in order to boost the president’s chances. This despite the fact that there is no historical proof mail-in voting favors one party over another. During his hearings, DeJoy repeatedly denied the claims which he referred to as “outrageous”. He stated the changes were made to save money and make deliveries more organized. He added the current delays in mail resulted from “other reasons”. Furthermore, DeJoy distanced himself from President Trump, saying his public complaints about the service have not been “helpful.”
