Republican National Convention Kicks Off Tonight in Charlotte

The Republican National Convention is set to kick off tonight in Charlotte. This comes following months of controversy concerning the location of the event. After Governor Roy Cooper could not promise a full attendance of supporters due to the pandemic, the president decided to accept his nomination in Jacksonville, Florida. However, when cases began to skyrocket there, he was forced to revert back to his original plans. This year’s event will feature an overarching theme of “Honoring the Great American Story” with tonight being dedicated to “Land of Promise”. Among the speakers expected to make appearances tonight are South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, Ohio Rep Jim Jordan, and Mark and Patricia McCloskey who were the couple from St. Louis who brandished their guns at protesters allegedly trespassing onto their property. In an unusual move, the president is also expected to make an appearance tonight in person. The nominee does not normally do this until the final night, however the president has been persistent about making an appearance every night of the RNC.
