House to Return From Recess This Weekend to Vote on New Bill for USPS

The debate over funding for the United States Postal Service continues today. The U.S. House of Representatives will convene this Saturday to vote on legislation related to the issue. The bill will include the allocation of $25 billion to the service. This comes despite clear objections from the White House and President Trump. They continue to claim the money may be used to aid in the election which is expected to receive a record-breaking number of mail-in ballots. While the president believes this will lead to fraud, some Democrats say this is just an attempt to suppress voters. Furthermore, it was just announced that Postmaster General Louis DeJoy agreed to testify before Congress next week. He stands accused of purposefully hindering mail-in voting within the postal service. It’s reported that DeJoy is a Trump Campaign donor. He also owns a large stake in his former company XPO Logistics which happens to be a USPS contractor and presents a conflict of interest.
