President Vladimir Putin Claims Russia Approved World’s First Covid-19 Vaccine

Early this morning, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced they’ve become the first country to approve a coronavirus vaccine. The potential vaccine was developed by the Moscow-based Gamaleya Institute and named Sputnik-V. Putin said it has been officially registered and “works quite effectively” to form a stable immunity. He added one of his own daughters has already taken it. She reportedly had a slightly higher temperature after each dose, but “now she feels well.” Unfortunately, Putin’s claims have been
perceived as a political move to highlight Russia as a leader in the global scientific field. It’s been suggested Russia cut corners to develop the so-called vaccine which has not yet undergone critical phase 3 trials involving tens of thousands of participants. Russia has also failed to release any scientific evidence or data on its testing and their claims of the vaccine’s safety have not been verified by any credible U.S. source. The U.S. based biotech company Moderna added “there’s no way, there’s just no way” a vaccine will be developed before the end of the year, despite President Trump’s optimism one could be available by election day come November.
