President Trump Escorted From Briefing Room After Shooting Outside White House

President Trump was swiftly escorted out of the briefing room yesterday evening after a shooting occurred just outside the White House. The incident along 17th Street and Pennsylvania Ave began when the suspect, a 51-year-old male, approached a Secret Service officer. The suspect told the officer he had a weapon, ran aggressively towards them, and pulled an object from his clothing. He also “took a shooter’s stance as if he was about to fire a weapon” which led the Secret Service member to discharge his weapon, hitting the suspect in the torso. President Trump was delivering a coronavirus briefing when he was taken away to the Oval Office. When he returned ten minutes later, he confirmed the shooter was in critical condition and had been rushed to the hospital. He added the White House complex was never breached. At this point the shooter’s motives remain unclear, however he was not in fact armed with a gun. The president said of the incident, “it’s unfortunate that this is the world, but the world has always been a dangerous place.”
