President Trumps Sings Order to Ban TikTok App in the U.S.
President Trump has officially signed an executive order that will ban the social media app TikTok from operating within the U.S. in 45 days. That is unless it’s sold by their Chinese-owned parent company to a U.S. buyer by September 15th. The president believes the app poses a threat to users, claiming their information may be used by the Chinese government for intents and purposes of espionage. The parent company has continually denied any and all of these allegations and said they are actually shocked by the new order. In the declaration, the president also insisted any deal made would have to include a “substantial amount of money” directed towards the U.S. Treasury Department. However, it does not state how much money that needs to be. Microsoft has already been in talks to purchase the app for about a week now since the president first threatened the order. Shortly after, another order was issued for a second popular Chinese app called WeChat”. It functions like Facebook, LinkedIn, Uber, Instagram and more apps all at once.
