Some States Make it Easier to Vote by Mail For 2020 Election
As the 2020 election draws closer, more states are preparing for an influx of mail-in voting. Despite President Trump’s warnings that it could lead this year’s election to be rampant with fraud, the Nevada state legislature passed a sweeping election bill to approve a plan that will send absentee ballots to all active voters. In a Tweet, the state’s governor said, “This bill will help prevent Nevadans from experiencing the long lines at polling locations they faced during the primary election, which will protect their safety, safeguard their right to make their voices heard, and help reduce the spread of COVID-19.” While Minnesota rejected a similar request, they did agree to drop the witness requirement from its mail-in voting process over concerns the rule could heighten exposure to the coronavirus. The U.S. Postal Service has also confirmed they are prepared to handle the increased volume of mail-in ballots expected nationwide this November. This announcement comes shortly after President Trump voiced concerns on Twitter that they would not be able to meet such demand.
