Return to School Already Proving Difficult During Pandemic
With over 4.6 million COVID-19 cases nationwide, schools across the U.S. are preparing for the fall return. Already there are major concerns of a more widespread outbreak, especially for Georgia’s largest school district which is expected to resume August 12th. They confirmed around 260 employees either tested positive for COVID-19 or were exposed. It’s believed the majority of cases were caused by community spread. At this time it has not been confirmed if their return to school date will be postponed. Also concerning is a case in an Indiana district that was discovered on the first day of school after the student had already attended part of the day. Health experts are continuing to urge communities to use caution when it comes to decisions on sending children back to school. An associate dean for global health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham said he is not only worried for the lives of students, but teachers as well, asking “are we willing to live with those consequences?”
