As Federal Agents Pull Out of Portland, Dozens More Sent to Other States
Homeland Security and Oregon’s governor have officially reached a deal in attempt to withdraw federal agents from Portland. Governor Kate Brown confirmed federal officers from Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement will begin to pull out starting today. However, some DHS forces will stay and continue to coordinate with local authorities as long as there is a risk posed to the city’s federal facilities. They also want assurance that the rioting within the city is under control again before withdrawing altogether. And while federal troops are beginning to pull out of Portland, dozens more are being sent to the cities of Cleveland, Detroit and Milwaukee. This includes agents from the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service, and more. The Justice Department confirmed the decision yesterday, saying they were expanding a pre-existing initiative aimed to assist local and state authorities who have recently reported spikes in violent crime.
